Employees at Twitter were fired because Elon Musk reduced their severance pay, and emails ended up in their spam folders.

In recent months, Elon Musk promised to compensate thousands of workers with severance pay. The billionaire hadn't told employees anything concrete about severance pay until last week, but it appears that some of the affected employees have received an email with their severance pay over the weekend. However, they are not thrilled about it. By the first week of January 2023, Musk was supposed to send out his severance pay letter, but that hasn't really happened yet. Employees of Twitter India who were fired by Musk have not yet received any information regarding severance pay, but they anticipate receiving some information by the end of the month. The most recent media report states that some of the fired Twitter employees have received severance pay letters and are dissatisfied with them.

According to a Fortune report that cited multiple sources familiar with the situation, some former Twitter employees have received the official severance agreement, but the amount of compensation listed in the mail is lower than they anticipated. The same report also revealed that the format of the severance pay mail meant that many employees missed it because it ended up in the spam folder.

After laying off thousands of workers in November, Musk declared publicly that all affected employees would receive severance pay and other benefits. India Today Tech sources have previously confirmed that affected employees received their salaries on time, but there are currently no details regarding severance pay.

Musk is simultaneously implementing numerous cost-cutting measures. The billionaire fired janitors in addition to thousands of employees, resulting in unclean restrooms. Employees at Twitter's headquarters are said to be forced to bring toilet paper from home. Additionally, Musk has discontinued the policy of providing free lunches, which was initiated by co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey. At the San Francisco headquarters, the new Twitter CEO has also started bidding on used furniture and kitchen appliances.

According to one of the most recent reports, Musk has fired additional employees, this time primarily from Twitter's trust and safety teams. Bloomberg reports that Twitter has fired more people from its trust and safety team, which is in charge of global content moderation and closely monitors hate speech and harassment on the platform. The affected employees were employed in offices in Dublin and Singapore.

According to the report, the affected employees include Analuisa Dominguez, senior director of revenue policy at Twitter, and Nur Azhar Bin Ayob, head of site integrity for Twitter's Asia-Pacific region. The report also reveals that the company has let go employees from teams in charge of the platform's policy on misinformation, global appeals, and state media.
