One of the most stunning and well-known features of our solar system are the rings of Saturn. However, Saturn lacked a ring for a very long time. The rings are only about 100 million years old, which is less time than many dinosaurs. Astronomers have wondered for decades how the planet's accessories came to be because Saturn did not come with rings when it was first formed. A missing moon may hold clues to the origins of the rings, according to a new study published in Science.

Ira is joined by co-author and planetary scientist and UC Berkeley professor Dr. Burkhard Militzer to discuss the surprising origins of Saturn's rings.
